הכרזה על DDR4 Managing Correctable ו-Uncorrectable Memory Events עבור שרתי PowerEdge 14G ו-15G.

החל ממרץ 2022 גרסאות ה-BIOS וה-iDRAC ישנו את האופן שבו ה-BIOS / iDRAC מתריעים ומטפלים באירועי זיכרון DDR4. זה ישנה את אופן הטיפול באירועי זיכרון ECC הניתנים והבלתי ניתנים לתיקון (DDR4). שינויים אלה חלים על שרתי 14G עם מעבדי Intel Xeon Scalable מדור ראשון ושני (Skylake ו-Cascade Lake); שרתי 15G עם מעבדי Intel Xeon Scalable דור שלישי (Ice Lake) שרתי 15G וכן עם מעבדי AMD EPYC מהדור השני והשלישי (רומא ומילאנו).

תוך התייחסות למשוב של לקוחותינו אנו מצמצמים את התדירות והמספר של הודעות אירועי זיכרון הקשורות לאירועים הניתנים לתיקון ושאינם משפיעים על פעולת השרת.

בהמשך רישום אירועי הזיכרון יכלול רק אירועים הדורשים פעולה. להלן השינויים העיקריים:

1. Correctable Memory ECC events

The default value of the Correctable Error Logging BIOS setting will be set to disabled by default, instead of enabled. (An option will exist in the BIOS setup menu to enable correctable error logging per customers request). No logging of correctable memory threshold events or successful self-healing.

2. Uncorrectable (multi-bit) Memory ECC events

There are two main changes being made in BIOS/iDRAC related to uncorrectable Memory ECC event logging:

·                BIOS - When uncorrectable ECC memory errors are encountered, self-healing (Post Package Repair (PPR) and memory retraining) will be continued to be scheduled and run during the subsequent reboot. However, all PPR status messages (like ‘PPR successful’) will not be logged.

·                iDRAC - The message and recommended actions are being updated for uncorrectable or multi-bit memory ECC errors - Those changes are included in the updated iDRAC firmware for March block.

When an uncorrectable or multi-bit ECC error occurs that results in an unexpected server reboot, but PPR was successful; in such case, understanding the customer perspective in that situation, the recommended actions for uncorrectable ECC events is changed to "replace the affected DIMM".

We recommend downloading two updates, one for BIOS & one for iDRAC as mentioned below -

March block BIOS versions with the memory event handling changes:

•                14G Intel Platforms - BIOS versions 2.13.3 or newer

•                15G AMD Platforms - BIOS versions 2.6.5 or newer

•                15G Intel Platforms - BIOS versions 1.5.5 or newer.

•                iDRAC version 5.10.10.00 or newer
